BackThe project

About

A life roguelike set in the world of One Piece, written solo, free to play in the browser and with no account to create.

The idea

Most games drawn from One Piece tell the same story, the one everybody already knows. One Destiny takes the problem the other way round: you are born somewhere along the great History, with no role written in advance, and you live your own life inside it. It can be glorious, or it can stop at twenty on one bad decision.

The game is played in short runs, called lives. No two are alike, and what you unlock stays unlocked for the ones that follow.

How it is made

Everything runs in your browser: there is no game server, no database and no user account. Your progress lives in the local storage of your device. The site is built with Next.js and React, and hosted on Vercel.

The narrative content is written by hand in a text format, then compiled: that is what makes it possible to add events without touching the engine of the game.

What this project is not

One Destiny is an independent, unofficial fan project. It has no connection with Eiichiro Oda, Shueisha, Toei Animation or any other rights holder of One Piece. The names and concepts of that world belong to them and are used here out of affection, with no commercial intent.

The game is entirely free. There is no advertising, no purchase and no real currency: coins and tokens are earned by playing, and nowhere else.
